Click and Grow Experiment: Carrots, Day 70, The End
So it's actually Day 68. Day 70 is March 16 but the water level had gone down and I didn't want to refill it just to empty it again. So here is the full harvest details!
I will go through each carrot one-by-one so I can explain what happened here. We'll start with the best looking one which was also the first one I pulled.
When I pulled this one out I noticed I was pulling on some roots that went through the cup. I took the top off and found a huge amount of roots! All completely white and healthy looking. Even though this one was the best looking, it's still too small (it was about an inch long). I think if I had given it 2-3 more months it would have been perfect.
This one was a bit smaller than the first which I found interesting since they grew at the same rate. When opening the Click & Grow Pod I found that it had not pushed any of the plant food down. It seems this one was maybe weaker than the first one? It stayed directly above the plant food while growing which might be why it's smaller.
And finally, the one that looks the worst. This is the one that I thought might have died after putting the sprout in the pod. I think when I dropped the seed in, it started growing the wrong way which made it about 5 - 10 days behind the other two. Unlike other plants, it seems this one couldn't correct itself in the end and became both deformed and incredibly tiny.
Overall, I'm very happy with this experiment. I would say it was a success since the two seeds that did grow at a steady rate look exactly like they should. I was surprised that all of them didn't become deformed. I think if anyone wants to try these same carrots in the unit you should use your own soil or a medium that's not as tough so that the carrots can grow wide as well.
