Click and Grow Experiment: Carrots, Day 1

So, after looking at my seeds only one is okay with being in cold temperatures, Parisienne Carrots. Their ideal temperature, according to the packet, is between 50 - 70 F. It has good reviews, people have successfully grown them in poor soil and in cold temps. I will try to grow 3 of them in Click and Grow cups with string wicks and the full 3D lids.

I still have 2 tomato pods and 1 strawberry pod from C&G. I did not like the taste or texture of the ones I grew. So, I'll use them as experimental pods after taking out any seeds and sprouts I see. Then, I'll transfer in 3 sprouted carrots.

I started germinating them today:

As you can see, it's meant to be a small carrot. I picked this specifically because I believe it will grow in the unit best. This plant will reach maturity around 50 - 70 days depending on the temperature. Since I will grow 3, I will probably pull them one-by-one at 50, 60, and 70 days.

I came across another FB group member who tried carrots (don't know what variety) and kept them in the system. Based on his results, I think the carrots might still come out deformed since the cup is a small, confined space and the soil is tough. As the carrots grow they will want to push the soil out. There is also a bunch of slow release fertilizer in the middle of the pod. Like the last experiment, I will do 5-day updates until day 10 then switch to 10 or 20-day updates since this plant matures late.
