Choose Your Own Dystopian

This post is a bit late but I felt the need to publish it in case my idea gets taken.

Spring 2020 was my student teaching semester at The University of Montana. I was placed in an English class at Corvallis High School. It was scary and frustrating having to commute so far everyday during winter but I did enjoy where I was placed. The teacher was very open and fun, unlike some that I was paired with in the past for observation in Missoula. The classes were not ordinary English classes. The ones I helped with were American Literature and Science Fiction.

When March rolled around they went to online format due to COVID. Science Fiction was about to enter into their Dystopian unit (great timing right?). I wanted to do a class project where they all did a choose-your-own-adeventure together with me as the moderator. It just wasn't possible anymore and the original idea may have been too harsh. It was hard to tell because we weren't seeing the kids everyday so we couldn't judge how the situation was affecting them. My cooperating teacher suggested I use Google Sites and make it so that students can do it individually.

I had two weeks to do this and it was actually fun! Though I also found it difficult because with each branch I put in, I gave myself double the work. Below is the link to the finished product.

When it was all over both my University Supervisor and Cooperating Teacher suggested I publish this idea. So I tried to upload it to Teachers Pay Teachers. Here's the link: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Choose-Your-Own-Dystopian-Adventure-5611673

When purchasing you get a powerpoint of instructions which should take you directly to a folder in the my Google Drive. There you can make copies of the files and put them into your drives (this is important because otherwise you are making changes to my files that anyone can access not your own individual ones). The files you get are the Google Quizzes that are embedded into the Site and a "blank copy" of the Site. There is also the above link to my Google Site as reference. In the "blank copy" I added some extra tips to help you. All pages in the copy are formatted but you can easily change it to fit what you want. The way I have it set up means I'm holding people to an honor system because it's easy to share my drive to those who didn't buy the product. If this happens I will be forced to take it down.

Another project idea, if you don't want to do all the work, is to have students make their own based on my example. This could be for any subject because of how customizable it is (you just have to be creative).
